The Governor of Ondo State, Governor Mimiko after his repeated promises to conduct polls in 18 Local Government Areas (LGAs) has gone back on his promise.
In 2007, Governor Mimiko removed all of the elected Local Council Chairmen and replaced them with his so called “Caretaker Chairmen”, and has not allowed new local elections since then.
During the beginning of his second term, Governor Mimiko made repeated promises to conduct the local council polls before the end of 2015. However, after all these promises, he now says that the election can't be conducted this year because of budgetary issues.
