IG of police accused of biased Promotion

It was reported that during an interview with a foreign-based station, an Officer accused the Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase of playing favours in promoting officers and thereby allowing the promotion of officers during his tenure to be lopsided.

However, Daily Trust reports that Senator Abu Ibrahim, the chairman of the committee on police affairs has said on Monday, December 28 that a biased form of promotion could dampen the spirit of the officers and has promised to look into the list of promote officers after the list has been compiled.

See what Senator Abu said on the matter,

“I heard it on the radio station and we will find out the number of those who are promoted and their states of origin. We will definitely investigate it because it is capable of demoralising our policemen”.

“If we get the list, we will look at the number of those promoted, the number of those who are qualified but were not promoted. We will also look at their spread in terms of zones and states. We will do all these so that we will know whether there was really lopsidedness or not".

"Afterwards a decision would be taken not by me but by members of the committee on police affairs and if need be it would get to the session of the senate, depending on the gravity of the offence".
