The Ex-minister of Finance, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, following reports that have accused her of laundering money from the Abacha's returned funds alongside the former NSA, Dasuki has revealed to Nigeria her side of the story.
She revealed this in a statement signed by her Media Adviser, Paul C. Nwaburikwu.
In the Statement, She confessed to have given about $322m to the former National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki.
She started by explaining that the then president, had created a committee involving the former Minister of Justice, the Former NSA and herself, Dr. Ngozi.
She said, it was during the process of carrying out the duties of this committee, that the Former NSA proposed that the Abacha funds can and should be used for the purchase of Ammunition. The Urgency for the security measures to protect Nigeria made her write to the Federal Government to approve the proposal.
However, being a standout Nigerian, she gave the NSA three conditions.
1) Not the entire fund. will be spent on arms, the rest will be invested in other development projects
2) The money was to be treated as borrowed funds to be paid back as soon as possible
3) The NSA office was to account for the spending to the president Goodluck Jonathan.
She even went ahead to present the Memo she wrote to the former president concerning Dasuki"s proposal.
Nigeria decide? Accepted or Not accepted?
