Dokpesi face fresh charges

According to Saharareporters, Rotimi Jacobs (SAN) the prosecuting counsel in the six count charges of money laundering and violation of Public Procurement Act filed against Dokpesi by the Federal Government. He said this while opposing the motion on bail application for the media mogul by his lawyer, Chief Mike Ozekhome (SAN).

Dokpesi still pleas not guilty to these charges.

The Prosecuting counsel said that currently an ongoing investigation on the receipt of 8.7 million by the media mogul is being carried out and if Dokpesi is granted bail, it might affect the result of the investigation.

Meanwhile,  the defence counsel brought a case forward with proof of the reasons the media mogul should be granted bail. These reasons of which one is a health reason; the defence counsel, Ozekhome said that the defendant, Dokpesi, is currently facing a health issue of which he was about to attend to overseas when he was called up by the EFCC. He also mentioned that the Son of the defendant is getting married and the wedding date has been fixed for 17th and 18th of this month and is necessary the defendant is present.

Following all these reasons, is the need for the defendant to prepare well for his trial coming up sometime early next year and also to prepare friends and family members for it.

After both counsels had spoken,  the presiding Judge, Justice Gabriel Kolawole deferred the bail to Monday, December 14 and asked that the defendant remain in the custody of the EFCC.
He also added that he needed time to process the documents presented in the court.
