Militants attack ahead of Election

The election in the southern Ijaw region which was held on December 5, 2015 was cancelled due to violence and irregularities and ahead of the supplementary election scheduled for Saturday; pockets of violence are already being instigated.

It was reported that the militants shot sporadically in Peremabir community and people scampered around for safety. Following the incident, naval officers were deployed to the region to maintain peace.

Mr. Jonathan Obuebite, the director of Publicity in Restoration Campaign Organisation, a PDP agency confirmed the incident and pointed accusing fingers at the APC.

However, the traditional rulers of the community have contrary reports,

“Our community is peaceful, contrary to reports being circulated and we are ready for the January 9 election,” he said.
